사주 · Saju

Korean Saju Calculator

In Korea, your birth moment is written as eight characters — your saju palja. We write yours the old way, on a talisman, with the precision of a modern almanac.

Your clock said 09:20; the sun said 08:23. A calculator that skips daylight saving and longitude would put the wrong hour on your talisman.

庚 Gyeong Metal, the uncut blade

Gyeong is metal before the smith touches it — ore in the mountain, an axe still unsharpened. It is the most straightforward of the ten Day Masters: it says what it means and keeps its word.

Three Fire characters surround you. In Korean Saju, Fire is what tempers Metal — structure and responsibility that refine rather than break.

Gyeong likes fairness and fast decisions, and can be blunt on the way there.

What is a Saju calculator?

Saju (사주, “four pillars”) is the Korean name for the Four Pillars of Destiny. A Saju calculator turns your birth moment into eight characters — saju palja (사주팔자) — a Heavenly Stem and an Earthly Branch for your year, month, day and hour.

Why does my birth city change my Saju?

The pillars follow the sun, not your clock. Daylight saving, historic time-zone changes and your distance from the time-zone meridian can move your real solar time by an hour or more. That can change your hour pillar — and near midnight, your day pillar. Most calculators ask you to tick a daylight-saving box; we look it up for your city and date automatically.

Is Korean Saju the same as Chinese Bazi?

The calculation is the same eight characters. Korean practice corrects the birth time for longitude by default and reads the chart with Korean terms and emphasis. See Saju vs Bazi for the details.

What if I don’t know my birth time?

You still get three pillars — year, month and day — including your Day Master, the heart of the reading. Only the hour pillar needs the time.

Which calendar does this calculator use?

The year starts at Ipchun (立春, Start of Spring) and each month starts at one of the twelve solar terms, computed from VSOP87 planetary theory. You can also enter a Korean lunar date.

Sources: solar terms computed with VSOP87 (Bretagnon & Francou) via Meeus, Astronomical Algorithms; time-zone history from the IANA tz database; Korean lunar calendar data from the Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute; cities from GeoNames. Cross-checked against an independent almanac library (1,812 solar terms within 1 minute). Checked October 7, 2026.
